Some quick artistic updates from the studio…

I am working hard on a new draped portrait. Here is a progress shot of it for you to see. When complete this painting will be available at the gallery. It is 48″x24″,oil on canvas.
I have written a poem and painted it onto the figure in my painting “Mayberry Street, Hidden”. I wanted to capture a bit of the sensations of that morning, and see what would happen if I applied it directly to the painting. Here is a detail from the painting. You can see the entire painting at Abbozzo Gallery.
I hope you are well and perhaps see you Wednesday at the gallery!
I am excited to announce that “Gayle, Snowshoeing” will be included in an upcoming 2014 calendar by “Canadian Artists For The Poor”, a charitable fundraiser. Money raised from calendar sales goes to help fight extreme poverty around the world. You can find out more information here. Calendars are $20 each. Every bit makes a difference!
I hope you are well. Here is an exciting bit of news!
I sat down with Dave White of CBC Radio North this week to discuss my upcoming move to The Yukon…it’s all about following your dreams and the art that will come out of that odyssey.

I am so excited to see what this life change does to my paintings. Thanks for your interest and support in my work. I will update this page again soon.

Hello Friends, Collectors and Art Lovers,

The gallery opens May 4th with a group show titled “20/20″ for 20 years in business. The official opening reception is on May 22nd at 5pm. I hope you can attend!
Also, I have created a Google Maps map of where my art lives in the world. Have a look.
Map Of Where My Art Lives. If you own a piece of my artwork and your city is not displayed on the map, please let me know and I will add it immediately. I do not publish addresses or client information to retain privacy for collectors.

I was recently approached by my art alma mater, Sheridan College, to donate a painting for their annual fundraising gala and silent auction. I was thrilled to have a painting to donate for a good cause. My miniature painting “The Guest Room” will be available to the highest bidder on October 18th, 2012 at The Big Picture Gala held at the Mississauga Convention Centre. Good things come on small canvases
I hope you are all well and please stay tuned for new paintings being posted within the next few weeks as my solo exhibition, “Surfacing” is quickly approaching! Mark November 3rd from 2-5pm on your calendars! That is the opening reception at Abbozzo Gallery. Paintings are selling well in advance of the show. Please contact the gallery for a preview of all the paintings!
“The Guest Room”, oil on panel, 4″x5″.
I don’t normally post paintings in progress but I am so excited about this piece that I had to. It is a juggernaut: 72″x48″! I am painting it on its side in my studio as it is so large that I cannot paint it vertically. I love a good challenge. You can see the finished piece at my solo exhibition at Abbozzo Gallery this coming November. Thanks for your interest and enjoy the sneak peek!
Hello art lovers! Here is a quick update with two events of note.
An article was published in a Delaware magazine recently about a collector of my paintings. It is a terrific article which mentions my artwork, along with many paintings being seen in photographs of Patti Hurd’s beautiful home. Here is a link to the article. Enjoy!
The other exciting news is that my painting “David’s Studio, Sunset” is featured on the cover of a new poetry e-book titled “Sonnets From The Labrador” by well-respected poet Samuel Peralta. This book is a collection of poetry inspired by the beautiful artwork of David Blackwood. “Sonnets From The Labrador” e-book will be available via Amazon for the kindle and for download. Here is what the cover looks like, and I have provided a link to Samuel’s blog as well. You can see it here: http://semaphore1.blogspot.ca/
Finally, I will not be posting any more new paintings until my show in November…surprise is a good thing!!! I would like to wait and have the unveiling of the works at the exhibition…but I will post them as soon as the show goes up..until then, thanks for your patience!
Thanks for reading and hope this update finds you in great health!

As I continue to add sold work and new work to my website I am correcting some text issues for some images. I apologize for this and thank-you for your patience as I continue to iron out the kinks. Having said that I LOVE WordPress and just being able to look at my website on my mobile device is reason enough to transition over from Flash.
Have a wonderful evening and stay tuned for new updates!
